There is a human fascination with angels, although many people are skeptical about their purpose and even their existence. To clearly understand the culture of angels one must accept the idea that they exist in an unseen dimension that shares the same space with our material universe. Simply put, you may be sharing your living room with invisible guests. “ Don’t neglect to show hospitality, for by doing this some have welcomed angels as guests without knowing it.”(Heb.13:2) This verse refers to angels who transitioned dimensions and appear in physical forms, but you get the idea, they live among us.
Angels are not born like people. God created each angel individually. They are a different order and not permitted to mingle with humans unless on assignment from God. In the distant past, some angels broke the law of separation and suffered the consequences. “Angels who had not kept their original state, but had abandoned their dwelling, He keeps in eternal chains under gloomy darkness.”(Jude 6) The word angel means messenger or agent. Angels are organized and have rank; some are called archangels, meaning chief angels. They are independent, free will thinkers, sometimes making bad decisions as indicated in the above verse. Angels enjoy diverse personalities, appearance, and attitudes. They dwell in the 5th dimension and cannot be numbered. “But you have come to Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels.”(Heb.12:22)
Angels were created to serve God and help in the management of the twin universe. Most believers have or will have angel encounters in their life without realizing it. My encounter happened on a lonely stretch of the interstate when a radiator hose sprang a leak and disabled my car. At that time there were no cell phones nor was there a service station in site. As I was inspecting the problem, I turn to see an ordinary man standing beside me holding a roll of duct tape. He offered some simple instructions and told me there was service a few miles down the road. By the time I finished sealing the leak with the duct tape, the man was gone. I made it to the next service station where I had the problem repaired. Angel or mysterious good Samaritan? It doesn’t matter God had a hand in it either way.
The majority of angels remain faithful, willing servants to God. But like all free moral agents, some have rebelled and gone their own way. Because they knew God personally, face to face, there is no excuse nor redemption for them. They have become the enemy of God and man. “ Then there was a war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, but they were not strong enough. The dragon and its angels lost their place in heaven.”(Rev. 12:7,8) They work tirelessly to disrupt Gods plan for mankind. “ Our fight is not against people on earth. We are fighting against the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world’s darkness. We are fighting against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly places.”(Eph. 6:12) For more about angels and how to know the difference between good and bad angels read “Beam me up Commander.” It's free!
