From Here to Eternity
On the fourth day of creation, God used the sun and the moon to establish time. The sun by day and the moon by night. One revolution of Earth equals one 24 hour day. The purpose of time was to “be for signs and seasons, and for days and years.”(Gen. 1:14) Earth is a unique place in the creation because life reproduces and develops in time. Eternity is a place without time. The creation plan was to produce a race of people in God’s image that would reproduce after its' kind. Men would then partner with God to govern the material world. When death became the result of Adam’s sin, time became the enemy of men. Since time and death are related, the two locations, Earth and eternity are not compatible. God doesn’t make mistakes nor is he taken by surprise, plan B has gone into effect. “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth had disappeared.” (Rev.21:1)
It has been the heart of God to live among His children from the day He chose Earth home to Adam's race. It is all about family. All people who have grown up in a loving nurturing family atmosphere understand the value of family. It is the single most important lifestyle on Earth. In today’s world where the emphases is on self and sin is the rule, the family is broken. God will solve the problem by moving eternity to Earth. He will then demonstrate the all-encompassing love He has for His family. John was given a glimpse of the eternal dimension and could only describe what he saw by referencing things he understood. One thing was clear, time was not relevant. The City of God never sleeps for there is no night; the glory of God is the light. “And the city did not need of the sun, neither the moon to shine in it for the glory of God illuminated it.” (Rev. 21: 23)
Eternity is as real as Earth, and sometime in the future they will reunite, and God will move His headquarters to Earth where time serves no purpose. “I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of Heaven, and I heard a loud voice from Heaven, saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God.” (Rev. 21:2, 3) From here to eternity is a very short step that circumvents time and space.
