Why Doesn't Peace Work?
The opposite of peace is conflict. In general, war results out of the conflict between two opposing ideas or (ideologies). Somewhere approaching 1 billion lives have been wasted in war, based on loosely estimated records. During the first half of history, the weapons of war were sticks and stones, one death at a time. Today there are enough weapons of mass destruction to eradicate all life on earth. In fact, Jesus refers to a future time when just such a thing could happen. “In fact, unless those days are shortened, all humanity will perish.” (Matt. 24:22) The Great War of 1914, WWI ended four years later with a death toll of over 40 million people. After all peace treaties were signed and new alliances formed, The Great War was referred to as the (war to end all wars). 27 years later the United States dropped two atomic bombs on Japan to end World War 2. So, begs the question, why doesn't peace work? Jesus, the prince of peace, answered the question with a strange statement: “Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division.” (Luke 12:51)
Jesus is simply pointing out that this world is governed by a power-crazed psychopath hidden in the 5th dimension. A conflict in the spiritual realm causes all conflicts in the material world. From family squabbles to world wars, all are initiated from the ruler of this world. “For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against persons without bodies—the evil rulers of the unseen world, those mighty satanic beings and great evil princes of darkness who rule this world; and against huge numbers of wicked spirits in the spirit world.”(Eph.6:12) Jesus is making the argument that you can’t serve good an evil at the same time; you must choose one or the other. Men with narcissistic attitudes cannot solve the internal conflict; only God can end the rebellion. “For he adds rebellion to his sin; He claps his hands among us, And multiplies his words against God.”(Job 34:37)
In the world of conflict and war, the news is full of peace proposals and empty promises, while nations stockpile weapons able to destroy all living things. There is no hope for peace through degenerate man. Only Jesus can solve the problem and produce an everlasting peace. Until that day comes when He returns to earth and ends the conflict once and for all, He left us an inner peace we can rely on. “I leave you peace. It is my own peace I give you. I give you peace in a different way than the world does. So don’t be troubled. Don’t be afraid. (John 14:27) God will not allow the world to end in total destruction He will send Jesus back before it happens. Don’t be troubled or frightened by what you hear or see coming on the earth.
