Our Most Valuable Possession

In the age of consumer greed, when we value the American Dream more than an abiding faith in God; when we select governments solely on the size of our bank account or when the economy becomes more important to our nation than its morality, then we have chosen the wrong path. More always seems better, but its never enough. Joy in material goods only lasts for a short time. A new car becomes just a car when the smell wears off. It seems reasonable to want to get ahead in a world driven by self-interest and material goods but when possessions become obsessions faith in God becomes secondary. There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.”(Pr. 14:12) The most valuable and least expensive possession a man can have is faith in God.  “For we walk by faith, not by sight”(2 Cor. 5:7)

Jesus explains the value of faith in the 6th chapter of Matthew. Faith is a private matter between you and God and God always rewards true faith. If we genuinely put the needs and well-being of others first, then God has promised to meet our needs. “When you give to those who are poor, don’t announce that you are giving. Your giving should be done in private. Your Father can see what is done in private, and he will reward you openly.” There is a misconception among Christians that we can have the best of both worlds. We can have the riches of earth and heaven at the same time. “Don’t save treasures for yourselves here on earth. Moths and rust will destroy them. And thieves can break into your house and steal them. Instead, save your treasures in heaven, where they cannot be destroyed. Your heart will be where your treasure is.” In other words, don’t be a fence walker or two-faced; indecision will create doubt and doubt will destroy faith. “You cannot serve two masters at the same time. You will hate one and love the other, or you will be loyal to one and not care about the other. You cannot serve God and Money at the same time.”

God promises his children (believers) that they will be joint-heirs with Jesus. This promise is hard to imagine, but it includes all that God has made, the entire universe.  “Don’t worry and say, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?' Don’t worry, because your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things. What you should want most is God’s kingdom and doing what he wants you to do. Then he will give you all these other things you need.” All promises God made to us, are received by faith, and this is the best part, you don’t have to get faith, you are born with it. “ Don’t think that you are better than you are. You must see yourself just as you are. Decide what you are by the faith God has given each of us.”(Ro.12:3) For more about our most valuable possession read “Beam me up Commander” its free!
