Who Can You Trust?
There is a strange thing going on in our culture today: lying is an accepted way of communicating ideas. Not long ago before the social networking takeover, if someone called you a liar it was an insult and your honor was tarnished. Today, lying is considered the art of spin. Marketers use it to push merchandise, politicians spin the truth to gain power and social net-workers just spin to bully each other. In time past the morning newspaper and the evening news were trusted sources of information. Now, they spread biased agendas, (fake news). In our society, there is a severe shortage of integrity. Integrity is an honest attempt to separate truth from lies. “Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.”(Prov.19:1) One of the most alarming changes in our corrupted culture is education, especially at the university level. Collages are moving further and further left of center. Academics have taken a back seat to progressive thinking. The idea is to escape the bondage of outdated traditional ways, so it is all right to alter history for the sake of progress. It’s true, our children are learning that traditional values are obsolete and no longer necessary if they impede progress. Our value system is being replaced by whatever shows up next on our phone. What happened to grandmas homey advice about how to respect your elders, that couldn't hurt much. What about the solid, sustaining foundation of biblical truth. It has lasted unabridged for six thousand years without progressing left or right. Even the church is moving away from fundamental truth. The result is some pretty dangerous progress! So, if you can't trust merchants, politicians or the media if your friends are confused and your pastor is confounded, who can you trust? There is one source of truth that never changes, the Word of God. “Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words remain forever.”(Matt.24:35)
The Bible offers a successful plan for life to those who will trust its instruction. “If you want favor with both God and man, and a reputation for good judgment and common sense, then trust the Lord completely; don’t ever trust yourself. In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.”(Prov.3:5-6) God is perfect, therefore He cannot lie and is trustworthy. His instruction conflicts with much of what is going on in the world because the world is corrupted by sin (lies). “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”(Prov.1:7) If you choose to trust God and follow His instruction then you must realize you will be in disagreement with most people around you. It is a small price to pay for guaranteed success. “So remember that the Lord your God is the only God, and you can trust him! He keeps his agreement. He shows his love and kindness to all people who love him and obey his commands. He continues to show his love and kindness through a thousand generations,”(Due.7:9) For more about the world and all its deception read “Beam me up Commander” it’s free.
