Jerusalem a Burdensome Stone
When God promised Abraham his own homeland, He intended to keep His promise. “And I will prepare an agreement between me and you. This agreement will also be for all your descendants. It will continue forever. I will be your God and the God of all your descendants. And I will give this land to you and all your descendants. I will give you this land forever, and I will be your God.”(Gen. 17:7,8) Jacob, the grandson of Abraham had an unusual encounter with God one night that would change the course of history. Before it was all over God changed Jacob's name to Isreal and as a result, the Jewish nation was born as God had promised. “And the man said to him, “What is your name?” And Jacob said, “My name is Jacob. Then the man said, “Your name will not be Jacob. Your name will now be Israel. (Gen. 32: 27,28) This all happened long before the modern-day Palestinian-Israeli conflict. From that day to this day Isreal has survived many conflicts throughout her history but remains steadfast in the land God gave to Abraham.
Jerusalem is recognized by the free world as the capital of Isreal and is the hotbed of conflict in the middle east. The profit Zechariah was given a glimpse of what the future holds for Jerusalem. “I will make Jerusalem and Judah like a cup of poison to all the nearby nations that send their armies to surround Jerusalem. Jerusalem will be a heavy stone burdening the world. And though all the nations of the earth unite in an attempt to move her, they will all be crushed.”(Zec. 12:2,3) The future of Jerusalem is the future of all earthly inhabitants. The conflicts going on in that region today are just an introduction of things to come. There is a much greater battle brewing in the hearts of men who wish to destroy Israel at any cost. They are blind to the truth and God will defend His word as He always has. “The Lord will defend the people of Jerusalem; the weakest among them will be as mighty as King David! And the royal line will be as God, like the Angel of the Lord who goes before them! For my plan is to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.”(Zec. 12: 8,9) It should be no surprise to anyone that understands God's covenant with Abraham that Israel is in the land to stay and all nations that come against her will be defeated. The only partner Israel has is the United States all other nations surrounding the tiny country are Hell-bent on her destruction. The time will come when the U.S. will no longer support its commitment, leaving God alone to defend His promise.
In our high-tech world, Bible truth has become obsolete, no longer the trusted word to live by. Our senses are dulled by the constant flow of misinformation coming down the digital freeway. We are so confused by the overflow that we accept lies as freely as the truth. A solid foundation of truth is needed to overcome the unrelenting tide. “All who listen to my instructions and follow them are wise, like a man who builds his house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents, and the floods rise and the storm winds beat against his house, it won’t collapse, for it is built on rock. “But those who hear my instructions and ignore them are foolish, like a man who builds his house on sand.”(Matt. 7:24-26) The hostility aimed at Israel is just one of many signs that point to the second coming of Jesus Christ. A fair warning to those who are on the fence undecided on which world they want to live in. If this is you, undecided, without direction read “Study More” and get started in the right direction.
