In the course of human endeavor, war and rumor of war reign supreme above all other perverted behavior. Warfare can be traced back to a time when primitive cave symbols described the gruesome conquests of ancient conflict. In the beginning brothers and cousins fought and killed each other over petty possessions with rocks and sticks. Nothing has changed in today's modern society with one exception, the rocks and sticks have turned into missiles and smart bombs able to destroy thousands of people at one time. Jesus knew there would be a time in the future when weapons would be so destructive they could easily destroy the entire human race.
“There will be more trouble than has ever happened since the beginning of the world. But God has decided to make that terrible time short. If it were not made short, no one would continue living.”(Mt.24:21-22)
Jesus was speaking of a future time when God would be compelled to take control of earthly matters before men annihilated each other. To accomplish the mission, He would send Jesus back to earth with the armies of heaven and put an end to all wars. It was two thousand years ago that Jesus made this observation while discussing the end of the age with His disciples. It would seem reasonable that over such a long period of time men would find ways to solve problems without killing each other, but because of a depraved nature, war marches on at an alarming rate. The idea that war rages without end is depressive but cheer up; I have some good news. Jesus is in control!
“I have told you all this so that you will have peace of heart and mind. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows; but cheer up, for I have overcome the world.”(Jn. 16:33)
Wars and rumors of war were only one of the many signs Jesus discussed with His disciples about the end of the age and His second coming. He told them He would come back at a time in the future when knowledge would be vastly increased, and global news could be witnessed as it was happening.
“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass.” (Mt.24:6) “ Daniel, keep this prophecy a secret; seal it up so that it will not be understood until the end times when travel and education shall be vastly increased!”(Da.12:4)
