When Machines Think for Us
When I was in grade school, before computers, I struggled with multiplication tables and spelling skills. Two, of many subjects, requiring memory recall. My cognizant relapse was especially evident when called upon to solve a problem orally before the class or take a test. These unwelcome brain drains undoubtedly explain why my reading, writing, and arithmetic scores were so embarrassing. To resolve everyday problems one must be able to multiply numbers, read instructions and communicate. Today, memory recall is an arms length away in the smartphones of elementary aged children. No longer is it necessary to call on your cerebral faculties to solve problems, just ask Google. Young people carry their brains in their hands. Their intuitive functions dulled by the rapid assimilation of information provided by handheld brains.
Is this technology a blessing or curse? I fear the latter for it has shaped a culture of zombies. Information is only valuable if its true. Accepting everything that comes across the internet as truth is a serious risk, and yet that is what happens when we depend on artificial intelligence to think for us. Behind today's digital brains are programmers and marketers with few checks and balances, and a multitude of deceitful agendas not the least of which is power and greed. The Bible has repeatedly warned us to be mindful of dishonest men and hellish influences. “The Spirit clearly says that in the last times some will turn away from what we believe. They will obey spirits that tell lies. And they will follow the teachings of demons. Those teachings come from people who tell lies and trick others. These evil people cannot see what is right and what is wrong. It is like their conscience has been destroyed with a hot iron.”(1Tim. 1:1-2) Digital development is a significant and moral science controlled by immoral men with cunning schemes. There is a final generation that will no longer accept the Bible for what it clearly states. “Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first.”(2 Thess. 1:1-3)
Can the human race plummet any lower than when machines do our thinking for us? Are the final generations of this age living today? Yes, I think so, for they are no longer required to think for themselves. If you understand this very dangerous mind-numbing condition, will you address it with your children, loved ones and friends? Will you encourage them to seek the eternal truth through Jesus Christ and be a part of the gathering together with Him?
