Persia Invades Israel for the Last Time
In 1981, a daring attack lead by eight fearless Israeli fighter pilots bombed and destroyed a nuclear plant just outside Baghdad, the capital city of Iraq. The nuclear reactor had been purchased from France and was alleged to be used for peaceful purposes. The Jews knew better! The reactor was to collect plutonium for the development of a nuclear bomb intended to destroy Israel. Iraq is the modern nation of ancient Babylon, invader of Jerusalem. “ And Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against the city, and his servants did besiege it, And he carried out thence all the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king's house, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the Lord. (2 Kings 24:11-14) The king of Babylon sacked the Jewish nation for all its treasure. The Assyrian empire ruled what is now modern Iran, it also invaded Israel under King Sennacherib. “Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them.”(2 Kings 18:13) As is with all invading armies plunder is the primary objective. At the time of the two invasions, Israel was divided by two states Israel to the north and Judea to the south.
In the year 559 B.C. Cyrus the great inherited the throne of his father, king of the small state of Persia. Cyrus the great began the expansion of the Persian Empire swallowing up Assyria and Babylon among many other kingdoms in the region. Persia was one of the great civilizations of all time, advancing law, politics, and economics. At the height of its glory, Persia subdivided into 20 different provinces, including the Jewish state of Judea. In 1935 Persia became the modern nation of Iran. Both Iran and Iraq are largely Islamic and mortal enemy of the Jews. Iran’s nuclear ambitions have created tension among nations of the middle east. Their goal to “wipe Israel off the face of the Earth” is not unlike Iraq’s desire 35 years ago when they tried to develop nuclear weapons. At present, the U.S. stands in the way of Iran's deadly ambition. As Iran and Iraq begin to snuggle closer and closer to Russia, the Ezekiel alliance begins to form. “Thus saith the Lord God; You will come from all over the north with your vast host of cavalry and cover the land like a cloud. This will happen in the distant future—in the latter years of history: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: In the later years, you will come into the land that has been healed from war. The people in that land were gathered from many nations and brought back to the mountains of Israel.”(Ezk. 38)
In 1948 this prophecy was partially fulfilled when Jews from all parts of the world returned to their homeland and formed the modern nation of Israel. Iran and Iraq, ancient Persia, is part of an army from the north of Israel mentioned in Ezekiel’s prediction. Persia’s final invasion will end in failure. The Ezekiel prophecy will come to pass sooner or later as all Bible prophecy does.
