The Beginning of the End
The Bible records the history of mankind from the time of Adam until this present day as approximately 6,000 years. It breaks these years down into historical periods or ages. As an example: From the creation of man until the great flood of Noah was around 1700 years. That period ended when Noah and his family survived the flood and began to replenish the Earth once again. Each age has a beginning and an end. In general, ages start with God's favor and end in rebellion. Shortly after the devastation of WWII, displaced Jews from around the world began to find their way back to the land God had promised to Abraham after two thousand years of dispersion. On May 15, 1948, the United Nations reinstated Israel a state confirming the rebirth of the Jewish nation and fulfilling numerous prophetic scriptures. “And I will gather you back from the nations where you are scattered and give you the land of Israel again.”(Ezek.11:17) Restoration of Israel is a supernatural event because it validates Bible prophecy. It also signifies the beginning of the end.
Daniel was just a boy when he was kidnapped from his childhood home in Judah and taken to a far-off land where he found favor with the King of Babylon. He grew up to be a respected government official in the Chaldean kingdom. Although Daniel became a great statesman in his new home, he never forsook the God of his youth or his beloved Jewish lineage. His devotion and concern for the Jewish people lead to a heavenly encounter with a messenger from God. “Now I am here to tell you what will happen to your people, the Jews, at the end times—for the fulfillment of this prophecy is many years away.”(Dan.10:14) Daniel's concerns were in part, what will happen to my people who have been scattered throughout the world because of their rebellion?“O Lord, you are righteous; but as for us, we are always shamefaced with sin, just as you see us now; yes, all of us—the men of Judah, the people of Jerusalem, and all Israel, scattered near and far wherever you have driven us because of our disloyalty to you.”(Dan.9:7) The angel assured Daniel that in the distant future Israel would become a great nation once again when knowledge and technology would rapidly increase. “But Daniel, keep this prophecy a secret; seal it up so that it will not be understood until the end times when travel and education shall be vastly increased!”(Dan.12:4) And then, the end of that age will come. “ But he said, “Go now, Daniel, for what I have said is not to be understood until the time of the end.”(Dan.12:9)
Fast forward to 2021: Israel is back on the land as promised and air flights have replaced camel rides. We now have the prophecy and history to better understand the time of the end. The restoration of Israel has set the stage for the second coming of Jesus Christ and the end of the age. “ When the Son of Man comes, everyone will see him. It will be like lightning flashing in the sky that can be seen everywhere. Everyone will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds in the sky. He will come with power and great glory”(Matt. 24:27,30) These events will surely come to pass just as all Bible prophecy has. For Christians, the final hours of this age are not to be feared, they are the beginning of a new and wonderful age.
