Why Genealogy is Important
Every month millions of people go on a Genealogy Search to discover their ancestry. With the technical tools available today some people are able to trace their lineage many generations into the past. The search is equivalent to a virtual time machine. With all this interest in heritage, it must be very important! Did you know the Bible is dated all the way back to the beginning, 6,000 years ago? For example, in the year 1462 B.C. the Jewish nation under the leadership of Moses left the captivity of Egypt and started their trek across the desert to the land God had promised them. Along the way, God had many conversations with Moses. In one of these first conversations, God told Moses to keep a record in the form of a book about their conversations. “And the Lord said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua:”(Ex. 17:14) The book was passed on to Joshua as part of a permanent record chronicling the Jewish heritage and God’s relationship with His creation. “But be very sure to follow all the instructions written in the book of the laws of Moses; (teaching) do not deviate from them the least little bit.” (Josh. 23:6) The book of the laws of Moses is the first five books of the Bible starting with the creation story and forecasting the final destiny of the Jewish people.
One of the more remarkable features found in Moses' book was the beginning of the Genealogy from Adam to Jesus. When the first man Adam disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden his single act of defiance separated the human race from God. Adam's transgression didn’t surprise God. He made a fail-proof promise to all of creation. “For as in Adam all die, even so in the Christ shall all be made alive.”(1 Cor. 15:22) Jesus the God/man was born 4,000 years after Adam, fulfilling God's promise and sanctifying His plan for man. The accuracy of the lineage that God showed to Moses in the wilderness validates the notion that the human race started with one man and that Jesus Christ is a product of Adam's race and fulfilled the promise He made to Abraham. Moses didn’t have a computer to trace his Genealogy, he conversed with the creator for perfect accuracy. Bible Genealogy is confirmed every day through advanced archaeology and the study of ancient transcripts. There is much to be learned through Genealogy, including the age of Adam's race and the confirmation of Bible unity.
As you read and study the Bible, keep in mind how God has preserved the Genealogy throughout the ages. The record started on parchment manuscripts 6,000 years ago and can now be found on your phone using digital technology, and miraculously nothing has changed. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Heb. 13:8) God has supernaturally preserved His word because it is alive, reliable and trustworthy.
