Human Nature is Not Fixable with Legislation
Jeffery Dahmer, better known as the “Milwaukee Monster” murdered 17 people and ate half of them between 1978 and 1991. He was diagnosed as a psychotic schizotypal with a borderline personality. Impressive-sounding labels that mean we don’t know why he would do such a thing. Adolf Hitler the little man from Austria who would be king, murdered six million Jews without a trace of remorse. The Roman Emperor Nero commissioned Locusta of Gaul the notorious poison chemist to eliminate his many adversaries. And, so it goes! Murder has been a part of the human experience since Cane killed his brother Able. Salvadore Ramos is the latest of the present-day mass killers, he murdered 17 ten-year-olds and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas. State and Federal officials were quick to place the blame on the lack of mental illness facilities. It's the standard answer to a confounding problem. The challenge with psychology is that it treats only the mind (soul) and not the spiritual part of a person. Generally, mind therapy consists of numbing drugs with no long-term cure. “Yes, I know that nothing good lives in me—I mean nothing good lives in the part of me that is not spiritual. I want to do what is good, but I don’t do it.”(Ro. 7:18) Human nature is fundamentally flawed. “ For out of the heart come evil thoughts and plans, murders, adulteries, sexual immoralities, thefts, false testimonies, slanders verbal abuse, irreverent speech, blaspheming. “(Matt. 15:19)
Government officials politicize these matters lending more confusion to the actual problem. The depraved nature of humankind cannot be fixed by drugs or legislation. Only one person was born exempt from the corrupted nature of Adam's race. “ For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Ro. 3:23) A spiritual reset is needed to solve the dilemma. As officials scramble for political answers to spiritual problems the world teeters on the brink. Humans have the extraordinary ability to do whatever they can imagine as evidenced by the exponential advance in technology. “Nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined doing.” (Gen.11:6) Yet, with all the knowledge collected throughout six millennia, we still haven't fixed our demented nature. We simply do not corporately recognize the spiritual part of our being. Faith in God is in decline, church attendance is in a tailspin, young people are influenced more by social networks than the Word of God. We are living in the most dangerous age of human existence. Jesus called this era “the beginning of sorrows” Paul the Apostle called it “a perilous time” there is no turning back we are the generations of the end-times.
How then do we address this condition? More law enforcement, more civil laws, new officials, more prisons, a greater emphasis on mental illness? They have all been tried and failed. A change in spirit is the only way to restore a fallen nature. A man asked Jesus a similar question. “Sir,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us.” Jesus replied, “With all the earnestness I possess I tell you this: Unless you are born again, you can never get into the Kingdom of God.” The man was perplexed, he knew nothing about the spirit of a man.“Born again!” “What do you mean? How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?” Jesus replied, “What I am telling you so earnestly is this: Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. Men can only reproduce human life, but the Holy Spirit gives new life from heaven”(John 3:1-7) We as believers can’t save the world that is God's work and He will accomplish it! We can save our lives and the lives of our loved ones by receiving the salvation that Jesus gained for us on the cross. First, by understanding the restoration of mankind and then teaching it to others. For more about a spiritual reset read “Study More” on this website.
